FME helps East Gwillimbury prepare for rapid population growth
Overcoming the challenges of outdated processes
For years, East Gwillimbury depended on manual processes to manage operations, which often jeopardized data accuracy and hindered growth management efforts. Obtaining accurate permitting and inspection data in their Cityview software required complex database table connections. These challenges made it increasingly difficult for the town to keep up with its growing population and infrastructure demands. They also needed a way to visualize, track, and document new developments to make informed decisions about services for residents, including parks, snow removal, security patrols, and garbage collection.
Partnering for seamless integration
East Gwillimbury partnered with Consortech to implement a robust system using FME to address manual processes and data accuracy issues. Consortech worked alongside a CityView expert to design a customized solution that automated data workflows, reduced errors, and facilitated seamless information sharing across multiple systems.
Employees became proficient in FME Form and Flow through focused training, allowing them to extract permitting data from Cityview, integrate it with land registry systems, and develop a web-based mapping application using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Server. Automating updates and workflows improved operational efficiency, shifting the town to a proactive problem-solving approach.
Delivering impactful results
Implementing FME and ArcGIS has transformed how East Gwillimbury manages its growth. Automated email notifications keep staff updated on permit actions, while real-time progress tracking ensures that projects stay on schedule.
By reducing data processing time, East Gwillimbury enabled staff to focus on important projects, such as improving the permitting process for new developments. This enhancement improved service delivery to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population and established a strong foundation for a resilient future.
