Improving utility data integration and efficiency
ReWa, a wastewater treatment utility serving parts of five counties in the Upstate of South Carolina, manages the treatment and return of clean water to rivers and streams. To enhance their operational efficiency and address challenges with wastewater billing, ReWa partnered with Timmons Group, a civil engineering firm known for its expertise in geospatial solutions, to develop streamlined data integration processes. With ongoing service area growth bringing more industries, commercial businesses and residents to the system, ReWa aimed to improve their data management practices to ensure accurate and reliable billing information.
Streamlining data integration for key insights
ReWa’s billing data was stored in various formats and structures based on their billing agent, creating challenges for efficient management and analysis. Timmons Group leveraged FME to automate the integration of these disparate data sources into a unified, spatially-enabled dataset. By geocoding customer addresses and merging the billing data with other critical data layers, it created a comprehensive spatial visualization that displays customer locations alongside wastewater billing data.
Calculating condition of failure scores for enhanced maintenance planning
In addition to improving billing data integration, ReWa utilized FME to calculate Consequence of Failure (COF) scores to enhance their preventative maintenance routines. By incorporating various asset-related datasets and analyzing their condition, Timmons Group enabled ReWa to identify high-risk assets and prioritize maintenance efforts more effectively. This approach supports ReWa’s commitment to improving system reliability, reducing operational costs, and enhancing long-term infrastructure planning.
FME’s role in data transformation and compliance
Timmons Group leveraged FME to enhance operational efficiency at ReWa through automated data migration and transformation. By streamlining the transfer of critical information, such as Consequence of Failure scores, FME improved ReWa’s ability to accurately track and manage horizontal assets. This automated process ensures that the most current data is readily accessible for decision-making, supporting better infrastructure management. FME also enhanced data quality by automating calculations and analyses, ensuring that spatial data from various sources remains consistent and reliable. This approach minimizes human error and saves valuable time, ultimately improving overall operational effectiveness.
Empowering growth with scalable solutions and strategic support
Timmons Group’s expertise in GIS and geospatial data management played a crucial role in the success of this project. Their ability to understand ReWa’s unique challenges and tailor FME workflows to address these needs was imperative to the project’s success. By leveraging FME’s flexibility and scalability, Timmons Group delivered a solution that not only addressed ReWa’s immediate needs but also established a framework for long-term efficiency and reliability. Their collaborative approach and commitment to innovation have helped ReWa navigate the complexities of utility billing integration and COF scoring, positioning them for continued growth and operational improvement.
