Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) often rely on location-based data to support programs in areas such as public health, climate resilience, and infrastructure planning. Working with that data can be complex, especially when it comes from different sources or formats. FME helps address these challenges by simplifying how data is connected, transformed, and automated.
Building Futures, Together: A One-Day support event for NGOs
Avineon Tensing is hosting a one-day event called Building Futures, Together, offering free technical assistance to NGOs that use or want to explore FME in their work.
During the event, up to 100 consultants will work with selected organizations on one specific task involving FME. This may include automating part of a workflow, reviewing an FME Flow setup, or improving the performance of an existing workspace. The aim is to help organizations make meaningful progress within a focused timeframe.
Support will be provided either remotely or in person, depending on location and availability. Participants will also have the opportunity to follow up with questions after the event.
Avineon Tensing is a consultancy that works with governments, utilities, and nonprofits on data integration and location intelligence projects. The company operates across Europe and North America and frequently implements FME in client solutions.
Highlights from past NGO projects
Avineon Tensing has worked with nonprofit organizations on geospatial initiatives in regions such as Belize and Ghana.
In Belize, Avineon Tensing partnered with the Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI) during a two-day nonprofit event in 2018. Consultants supported the automation of several geospatial workflows using FME. These included updating CSFI’s geospatial database, generating flight plans for drone monitoring, and building tools to detect wildlife in motion-activated camera images. The improvements helped reduce manual processing and allowed CSFI staff to focus more on conservation efforts in the protected areas they manage.
In Ghana, the team collaborated with Ghana Water Limited, a government-owned utility serving around 14 million people. Consultants provided FME training to the local GIS team and helped automate the customer billing process. This reduced manual work and resulted in a system that is both faster and more accurate.
Corporate Responsibility in practice
Corporate responsibility plays an important role in making geospatial technology and expertise more accessible to organizations that work in the public interest. In this context, technical support can help NGOs improve how they use data to support environmental, humanitarian, and community-based goals.
Avineon Tensing contributes by providing pro bono support for nonprofit projects worldwide. The Building Futures, Together initiative is part of these ongoing efforts to help NGOs address specific data integration challenges.
Safe Software shares this perspective. As a certified B Corporation, Safe supports responsible business practices and contributes through grant programs, volunteer efforts, and partnerships with organizations in education, sustainability, and social initiatives.
Initiatives like this help ensure that technology such as FME is available and useful to those working toward positive impact.
How to Participate
NGOs that work with geospatial data and are facing technical challenges are invited to apply for free support. Assistance is tailored to each organization and focused on delivering practical outcomes.
Building Futures, Together will take place on Friday, October 31, at Winthontlaan 1 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 9:00 to 17:00 (Amsterdam time).
Candidates will be selected based on the potential impact that can be achieved in one day. The review process will assess whether the submitted project can realistically be completed within the available timeframe.
