Until December 12, join the annual FME Community winter contest: a treasure hunt powered by FME Flow. Solve puzzles and follow clues to uncover the long-lost fortune of Greenbeard the pirate lizard, and pin your guesses to our world map. The closest to the actual treasure wins one of our grand prizes!
What is the FME Community?
The FME Community is the place to connect with over 43,000 fun, kind, and helpful FME users who love to share their knowledge with fellow members. Full of resources for all skill levels, it exists to help you learn, get inspired, and explore FME’s potential. You’ll find forums to ask and answer technical FME-related questions, our ideas board to submit and vote on product ideas, information about events, and of course, contests and games like this one. You can earn badges and points by contributing to the FME Community and participating in events.
Get started by creating an account and introducing yourself in the Introductions Forum.
How to participate in the 12 Days of FME
To join the contest, visit the contest landing page and log in to your FME Community account.
Uncover clues under the Puzzles link, and click Make a Guess to take a stab at where Greenbeard’s long-lost treasure is hidden.

There are four puzzle categories (rows), and each row must be solved in order. The difficulty increases from left to right. Harder puzzles give more precise clues.

Check out our forum post to read more about the rules and prizes, as well as to participate in the discussion and ask any questions.
For tips to help you get started, visit the “How to Play” page, which has a list of helpful advice such as:
- Early clues are intentionally vague, so don’t waste guesses until you understand what the clues mean.
- You get 12 guesses, but you may earn bonus guesses throughout the contest.
- Our contest creator, Mark Ireland, spent a lot of time trying to come up with challenges AI wouldn’t instantly solve, so AI probably won’t be of much help!
Behind the scenes: How FME powers the contest
The contest is hosted in FME Flow, where we use Webhooks to trigger workspaces to validate answers.
Every answer you submit triggers an FME Workspace that checks your response, updates your progress, and generates dynamic content. Even the contest pages themselves are generated by FME.
