FME around the world: Smarter data, safer cities and better services

FME is transforming how organizations across the globe use data to solve real-world challenges. Whether improving public services, managing infrastructure, or enhancing emergency response, teams are using FME to modernize workflows and unlock smarter, more resilient outcomes.

As we approach the holidays and look toward new opportunities in 2026, it is inspiring to see how organizations continue to drive meaningful results with FME. Across regions and industries, teams are finding smarter ways to leverage their data, improving operations and delivering better services to the communities they support.

Smarter safety and infrastructure across Europe.

Building a digital twin for proactive crowd management

Every five years, millions of visitors gather for SAIL Amsterdam, one of the largest public events in Europe. To ensure public safety, the Amsterdam Amstelland Security Region needed real-time visibility into crowd movement, congestion points and incident locations.

Working with Avineon Tensing, they used FME to create a digital twin that consolidated information from multiple sources into a single, clear view. Spatial data is updated automatically and standardized, so teams can instantly understand what is happening on the ground. The result was a safer experience for more than two and a half million visitors and a model the city can now apply to future events.

Mapping critical underground infrastructure at scale

In Belgium, BESIX, the country’s largest construction group, manages complex infrastructure projects where accurate underground data is essential. Cable and pipeline information, known as KLIP files, often arrives in fragmented formats, which can slow down integration.

With support from Nordend, BESIX utilized FME to centralize and structure this information, enabling it to be reused across BIM, CAD, and GIS. The streamlined process reduces repetitive work, improves data quality and gives project teams a clearer picture of the subsurface environment.

Automation and accuracy across Asia Pacific.

Transforming ground improvement at the Port of Brisbane

At the Port of Brisbane, MGN Civil was tasked with drilling tens of thousands of vertical shafts as part of a ground improvement project. With each shaft generating detailed location data, manual validation processes could not keep pace.

Working with Locus, the team used FME to automate data validation and identify missed or non-compliant holes in minutes. What once required several hours of work each day is now completed almost instantly. The increased accuracy and speed have set a new benchmark for how civil engineering teams can apply automation to improve efficiency.

Reimagining public data engagement at Gore District Council

In New Zealand, the Gore District Council wanted a better way to manage and share information about public assets. Paper-based processes created delays, especially during emergencies, and made it difficult for residents to access timely information.

By introducing FME, the Council replaced manual updates with automated workflows that feed data directly into GIS. Everything, from road closures to asset records, can now be viewed in real-time. This shift has improved communication, strengthened collaboration with regional partners and created a more transparent experience for the community.

Stronger community services across the Americas.

Streamlining field operations at the City of Bécancour

In Quebec, the City of Bécancour undertook a modernization initiative for its inspections, field data collection, and public works operations. Manual processes slowed response times and produced inconsistent information.

Using FME, the City now updates its GIS automatically with field inspection and work order data. This eliminates manual entry, reduces errors, and provides teams with access to accurate information when needed. The improvements save the City 288 hours each year and help deliver more reliable services to residents.

As we look back on the year, it is inspiring to see how organizations everywhere have used FME to create better services, streamline their operations and work more confidently with their data. Each project reflects a thoughtful approach to problem-solving and a commitment to building stronger, more connected communities.

With exciting initiatives already underway and more to come in 2026, we look forward to seeing how our customers and partners continue to build what is next with FME.

“As we head into 2026, these projects remind us of the power of data done right. With FME, teams worldwide are creating safer cities, better services and a stronger future for their communities.”
