Cloudbursting Part 2 – “Raindrops Are Falling on My Head”
What a difference a week makes! Last week I blogged about Cloudbursting and how it is poised to disrupt business-as-usual in the geospatial realm. And then yesterday, as if they were reading my blog and decided to do something to make it even easier to realize, Amazon announced a limited beta for their Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) . Wow! With one fell swoop, a host of issues around security, privacy, ease of deployment — all potential barriers to cloud / cloudbursting adoption – disappear. (See Amazon’s own CTO’s blog on this for more compelling arguments as to why)
As RightScale said in their blog, “Mark your history books: 2009, the year that the cloud became enterprise ready”. Summer must be over in Vancouver – it feels to me like it is time to break out the umbrellas!
